On Mondays, Green C is available on for practise. All other greens are closed for maintenance.

What’s happening at Somerton.

1. CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENTS: Entries for the 2018-19 Club tournaments will close this Sunday, 14 October. Entry envelopes are placed with the entry box in the noticeboard walkway. Rules and conditions are also posted on the noticeboard.
The tournament is open only to Pennant playing members; cost is $5 per person for entry to each competition, the sections are:-
Men’s Championship Singles and Ladies Championship Singles
Men’s Championship Pairs and Ladies Championship Pairs
Open Handicap Singles, B-Grade Singles (3rd side or lower) and Open Veteran Singles (70+)
*Prizemoney will be paid only to the Men’s and Ladies Championship Singles winners.

2. SOMERTON SKINS TOURNAMENT: Will be held on Sunday, 18 November. The prize pool is $2400; entry fee is $100 ($25per person) with lunch by Texas Bull. 2 games of 10 ends, 1 Skins game of 8 ends. There are still plenty of spots available so get a team together and contact John McDermott on 0447373013, if you haven’t already got your raffle books for this day, also see John. Besides our major tournament sponsor for this day March Spreader Sales, thanks also go to Rent the Roo, the Morphett Arms, Esplanade, Junction, Charlie’s Brighton and Watermark Hotels. Also thanks to Sheboo Hair as our first scoreboard sponsor.

3. CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL OUR FIRST-ROUND PENNANT WINNING TEAMS: A great start in Premier Division for Somerton who beat Henley away by 68 shots; a great start for the Club’s new top-grade players Nathan Pedersen, Brett Hurrell and Scott and Jay Colvill. Our third and fourth sides were also successful, the former, Division 4 South defeated Port Noarlunga Red at home by 35 shots while the latter, Division 5 West red was a 32 point victor over Edwardstown, also at home.

4. SOCIAL BOWLS: Plenty of opportunity for players to play social bowls at Somerton. There is Tuesday’s Pair competition which is 2x4x2 and the very popular Thursday Pairs which is 2x2x2x2. Time is noon for a 12.15pm start. Cost $10 per player. And for those so inclined there is also Saturday pairs during the winter these winter months. The format is 2x2x2x2 for the first game and 2x4x2 in the second. If you are interested, put you name down on the appropriate list(s) adjacent the noticeboard.

5. FRIDAY HAPPY HOUR/MEMBERS DRAW: Come down for a roll-up and/or practice Friday afternoons then stay on for a drink at Happy Hour Prices and an opportunity to win one of two meat trays in the raffles. The Members Draw is held at 5.30pm; you must be present to collect the prize. This is an opportune catch-up time and sample some of David March’s goodies.

1. URGENT REMINDER ABOUT SUBSCRIPTIONS FOR THE 2018-2019 SEASON: Only a week to go before the 31 August 2018 deadline for all pennant players,  and for that matter full non-pennant members, to pay outstanding subs. The fees are: Full Pennants $330; Full Non-Pennants including Dual $140; Social $25.  Banking details will be on allocated member invoices – please quote invoice number or name if paying by direct debit. Money, either cash, credit card or cheque can be paid across the bar.

2. UNIFORM PICK-UP: Those members who ordered new apparel (trousers, shorts etc) from Jack High can now be collected from the Club.  All uniforms must be paid for upon collections.
Prices are as follows: Mens/Ladies track pants & shorts $40; Ladies ¾ pants $55; Flexi waist shorts $65; Flexi waist pants $65; Classic slacks $55; Belts $25; Ladies Shorts $50.

2. FINAL SUNDAY CLUB COACHING: This Sunday (12/8) will the last of Steve Foster’s sessions which is held 10.30am until 11.30am. New member and former State player Brett Hurrell will address those who attend.

What’s happening at Somerton.

1. VALE LES EDWARDS:  With regret I report the passing of our esteemed Life Member Les Edwards who died last Sunday morning (22 July). Les was 94 and had been a member of Somerton Bowling Club since March, 1989. He was awarded Life Membership in 2007; serving as President from 1996 through to 1998 and was also a long-time Chairman of Selectors at the Club as well as a top-grade player. His funeral service will be held at the Unley Park Baptist Church, 1 Northgate Street, Unley Park at 2pm on Monday (30 July). The Club sends its sincere condolences to his family.

1. CLUB TROUSERS/SHORTS PURCHASES:  A reminder that from this season Club uniform (pants and shorts) will no longer carry the name Somerton and will be plain maroon. Shorts and trousers can be purchased from Jack High (nth/western corner of South and Cross Rds) at CLUB DISCOUNT PRICE: Men's apparel: $40 each, shorts and trousers. Ladies apparel: shorts $50, slacks $55 UNTIL 30 JUNE. After this date they will sell at retail cost. So be fitted with the appropriate size now or until the end of the month and save.

What’s happening at Somerton.

1. VALE PETER BYRNES:  Life Member Peter Byrnes passed away last Friday (2/6/2018) following a long battle with illness. Peter, 89, had been a member of Somerton for 42 years, and served as Chairman of Selectors and on the Board of Management for many years as well as playing in the Club’s top side (Division 1 Red as it was once known). He was awarded Life Membership in 2012. The Somerton Bowling Club extends its condolences to his family and friends.
 
2. WELCOME TO THE NEW MEMBERS OF THE BOARD: At last month’s Annual General Meeting the Board for 2018-2019 was announced following a ballot. For those who could not attend and have missed who will be steering the Club in the year to come the personnel is:
President: Russ Thomson; Vice-President: Bob Crabbe; Treasurer: Eddy Strudwick; Secretary: Brian Trout; members: Rob Walton, Yvonne Bekeris, Martin Ancone, Bruce Hendy-Pooley (new), Lyn Shippey (new) and Alan Jackson (new). The first Board meeting will be held on Wednesday, 6 June.

3. SUBSCRIPTIONS FOR THE 2018-20189 SEASON: Treasurer Eddy Strudwick has e-mailed and/or posted invoices to members for the coming season. If you haven’t yet received the invoice, it is probably still on its way. The subscriptions will be:
